Well.......

You know how it goes sometimes. I was in the process of doing a simple oil/filter change and had nice new synthetic oil on my hands. I went to pick up the filter housing, and it "squirted" out of my fingers and onto the concrete floor. It seemed ok at first, but when I looked it over carefully, the spring loaded device in the top of the housing was crooked. I tried to push it back, but then I noticed a loose part inside the housing. I apparently broke one of the four "fingers" that hold the pressure plate to the housing, either n the original fall, or when I tried to pop it back in. After much finagling (is that a word) I was able to get the car back together with only three of the four fingers holdng everything in place.

I ordered a new housing (about $68.00 at the friendly local Mini parts department -- $42 at realoem if I had the time to wait for the UPS guy).

Some days are just that way -- it could be worse I guess. I could be the guy in charge of maintaining the asphalt at Daytona Speedway.

Anyone else ever break this little plastic can??????

 

Bad luck for you all around. I have seen on these threads a few snapping off the nut on top from over tightening, and anything can hapen. I don't see getting it all that tight, it has an o ring seal, run her till she tags home and stop. It will hold or it won't at that point.

Happy you were able to get it together, so to speak until the new one arrives. Something to be cautious about as I am usually the most clumsy guy on the block.
