Brake Pad Directional Clunking or Knock
Brake Pad Directional Clunking or Knock
Hi
I put on ATE Bono Euro Ceramic Pads a while ago. I have a directional 'clunk' when applying the brakes. Its only when I change direction.
I noticed the pads have some clearance to the caliper, Im guessing its the pad tabs 'clunking' the caliper when the tire rotational direction changes.
Anyone have this problem? How do you fix it? Glob that red grease that solidifies (CRC brake quiet)? Seems strange there no shims with the pads and that they float so loose on in the caliper holder.

IT's normal
if you don't have clips and the like to deal with it. I'd just live with it. Our Acura MDX had is BAD with factory pads. When it's time for new pads, you can look around for other pad options that don't have as much space and the like.
But for good measure, check to see that everything is torqued properly.

The spray version brake quiet does help a little. I like it better than the lube.
But it seems to turn into a white dust when the pads temps are too high. If that happens and the noise returns, just do it again.
Checking for torque as Dr O suggested is a great idea.
