Removing Plastic Part of Dash Behind Tach? 2009
I have a 2009 hard top that has a rattle coming from behind the tach that I am almost certain is coming from the silver plastic piece that matches the "secret compartment" door. I have already fixed the rattle coming from the door itself now all that's left is the driver's side. Anyone know how to pop that bad boy off? Is it held on with clips? I don't want to break it. Anyone who has painted these parts would know...
Well first off all I would be just heading back to the dealer for them to fix unless you are prohibitively distant from them. With that being said here is a quick proceedure
It is easier than it seems. Do the following:
1. Lower the steering wheel and extend it all the way out.
2. Using a T-25 screwdriver, remove the two scews from the Tach. Set aside. This step is kind of optional but it makes removing the piece much easier
3. Grasp the plastic piece at the steering column opening and pull. Pull a little harder than you may think is necessary.. It will pop out. It is pretty sturdy and will not break.
4. Reverse the operation to put it bacj together
One word of caution. Be careful when removing the screws from the tach. They cab easily fall into the dash and are not fun to retreive. I actually have two screws living somewhere in my dash that I can't find from this very scenario. I had to order them and they are special order. Use a screw driver that has a magnetic tip.
