Helix dyno results on 64mm throttle body
Today we did before and after dyno runs on the Helix/P&D 64mm throttle body. This is an OEM Throttle body, bored out to 64mm, with a replacement butterfly valve. The runs were done on a relatively standard modded MCS: 15% pulley, K&N intake, modded JCW exhaust (more on that in another post), plug wires (no help), and a prototype GIAC software.
Before the test, we were skeptical of any real positive results because of the pressure differential testing that Andy from Ross-Tech had done. If I remember correctly, he had found just a 1/2 pound of pressure loss from the dirty side of the air intake to the intake manifold side of the throttle body utilizing the stock air intake.
For this dyno session, we recorded coolant temp, intake air temp and peak intake air temp for consistency from run to run. For the heck of it we also recorded fuel air mixes with our new Innovate Motorsports wide band O2 sensor. all of this was downloaded (via an interfase, Cheese you ba$tard) and graphed, which we can send to anyone interested. We took six runs before the throttle body swap and six runs after. We printed out the mean runs on the attached dyno sheet. The numbers are as follows:
Run 4: IAT: 79 ECT: 203 PEAK IAT: 142.5 HP: 184.5 TQ: 162.3
Run 10: IAT: 79 ECT: 205 PEAK IAT: 140.5 HP: 187.0 TQ: 163.3
Looking at the graphs, the curves are very close up to 6200 RPM where the better flow of the throttle body starts to show an advantage over stock. The shape of the HP curve near redline is flat, so pushing the motor another 250 RPM would not necessarily see further gains. Anyway my car is such a dyno ****, I don't want to push it to the limiter every run. If you want to see the curves, email me at eric@helix13.com and I'll send them to you.
This is one of those mods that is more attractive to racers that spend time near redline. If you are into track events, this is a nice power mod. If you are more into street driving and auto-x, the bang-for-the-buck might not be as good (we charge $350 plus a core exchange for this 64mm throttle body). If you want more detail on the throttle body or our dyno methods, please don't hesitate to call us at 215 739 8800. -Eric

Glad to here more things are coming out  I just want more torque. We need to discuss some exhuast Options for my ride. I know you make fun of me everytime I am in there and do not buy exhuast. I want that exhuast we spoke about. Sleeper style for me. Hopefully we can do some dyno testing on my Mini real soon.
I need more Cheasesteaks
