1st Gen to 2nd Gen Compatibility

Are OEM wheels from the 1st generation of MINIs compatible (without anything extra like lug conversions) with the 2nd generation of MINIs. Or is it the other way around, 2nd gen works on the 1st gen without any modifications. Thanks in advance for the answer .

If they clear the brakes, they will work. There is a full discussion of this at mini2 under the FAQ section. It lists compatiblity for all the factory brakes, wheels, and models.

Depends on the age of the 1st gen but I moved my 16" wheels from my '07 R56 to my '05 MCc.

2nd Gen have 14mm lug bolts and 1st Gen have 12mm lug bolts. So it is 2nd Gen to 1st Gen unless you modify and clearing brakes is still a consideration.

Some 1st Gen wheels have large enough lug holes for the 2nd Gen 14mm lug bolts.

Yep, the switch was made in late 2006 from 12 to 14 mm, so the later 1st gen wheels will work as long as they clear the brakes.

The 12mm to 14mm change has no impact for OEM wheels as the early wheels have large holes and will fit the later cars. Aftermarket wheels need to be checked. For OEM wheels, brake fitment is the issue.
