R50/53 0W20 or 5W20?
0W20 or 5W20?
Does anyone or has anyone used a 0W20 or 5W20 oil in their MINI?? I'm well out of warranty and considering one of these weights for the winter...
Thanks in advance,

Why 20?
MINI recommends 5-30 which should give the same cold performance as 5-20 with more protection in higher temp.
Even most Honda owners I know are using 5-30 for cars that recommend 5-20.
As not-so-red said, Mobil 0-40 is great oil and a true syn.
I use Royal Purple 5-30 mostly because where I live it does not get very hot or cold.

The reason I'm looking at different weight options is due to reading I've done which states the wider the gap in the API/SAE numbers, the faster the oil breaks down/protection decreases. In other words, 5W30 (with a gap of 25 points) breaksdown more rapidly than, say, 10W30 (with a gap of 20 points), etc.
I'm no tribologist, but I have done a good bit of reading along these lines over the years, and I'm still just trying to understand, and learn...
Thanks again,
