I began a thread under elctrical about 4 weeks ago. I lost speedometer, gas guage, ABS, Traction control, trip odometer etc and all preferences. This began as an intermittent problem and eventually, as all things do, became a permanent condition.

After a quote from mini that was between $70.00 and $3,000.00 I decided to have a look myself since this problem showed up soon after work by Mini - PS pump, SC pully and Alternator.

I went immediately to the SC side of the car and found that the wheel speed sensor was removed from the two clips between the uni-body and the engine. The tech performing all the above work did not reinstall the speed sensor wire. The wire came into contact with the crankshaft pulley and the pulley eventually wore away all the insulation creating a permanent ground...after which it wore away almost all of the copper.

Thought you might like to know Mini claim no responsibility and had no problem asking for $3,000.00 to find it. I will fix all Saturday. Sadly, the car failed the emisions test at a local shop this morning...the counter tech said you have an engine light on. I said yes, the wheel speed sensor is worn away. He said, " well then the ABS, traction control lights and perhaps a few others should be on." I said they are. A free and quick diagnosis from a tech who obviously knows his job!

I'll install the new sensor, disconnect and reconnect the battery and see what happens.
