Great, now a misfire..

Hey Mini folks,

I just purchased my 2006 MCS (37K) a few weeks ago and have had way too many problems with it .

I originally brought it into Mini for a binding clutch problem. It was making a noticeable squeak when the clutch was depressed. So they replaced the clutch assembly and a few bushings. Anyways, on the way home on 95, it felt like the clutch just completely disengaged! I had to pull over and have Mini tow it back. What had happened was apparently a mechanic didn't tighten one of the bolts all the way and the axle ripped out of the transmission. So after all of this they replaced the axle, and something in the transmission.

They were kind enough to drop the car off to me (and do the emissions test at the same time) and low and behold, the car didn't pass emissions. The check engine light came on and apparently, it's throwing a misfire code.

So anyways, my question is... Could the misfire have anything to do with the transmission? Could it be faulty work that they did on it, or is it strictly something that would be caused from the injectors or something in the cylinders?

If the CEL is on, that will put a code into the system that they can read and will tell them where the problem is, that will inidcate if it's something related. It's always tempting to think it's something they did, but sometimes it's just coincidence.............

What I'm not clear on from your post is that they did the emmision's inspection, it didn't pass, and they returned it to you that way, and with the check engine light on?

Ohh no no, I haven't had the car back yet. I'm waiting for Monday when they are going to diagnose the misfire code. To be honest, I haven't even driven it since the driver tried taking it to emissions and all of this started.

Cylinder 3 spark plug terminal on the coil tends to corrode, this can cause a misfire when its damp, its been very damp in the NE this year...weird how #3 is the only one...but the dealer should know this...a little squeeze of dielectric grease will fix it, and they'll charge you for new coil/wires
