Track school & time trial in Reno

On Sept 12-13 the Reno SCCA is doing a PDX and time trial at the Reno Fernley Raceway just east of Reno.

For those of you unfamiliar with them, a PDX is like a HPDE, or driver’s school. You need a SCCA license and helmet, and your car gets a tech inspection, but otherwise you’re good to go. I’ve done a PDX with Reno (along with another MINI pilot) and they run a particularly good one. An instructor is with you in the car, showing you the line and giving advice. Then you have classroom instruction on safety, driving techniques, etc. The advice we got on tires and tire pressures was particularly good. And it’s a great bargain: $250 for two days (you can do just one, but you learn more in two consecutive days). You can’t get track time and instruction much cheaper.

If you’ve already got some experience they also have club time trials (no racing license necessary) and time trials for the racers.

The track is a hoot; lots of variety, safe and fun to drive in a mini.

If you really want some fun, stick around in Reno for a week after to catch the air races.
