Interior/Exterior Hammer and Dolly Louvers
Hammer and Dolly Louvers
I hadn't shared this over here and started on this project a few months ago. I don't have all the pics updated, but here's the story.
I wanted to do something different to my hood and my original intention was to make a sheet metal scoop/snorkel. I got to thinking about it and thought I'd try my hand at making Louvers. I knew that if I didn't like them, I could always cut them out and do the scoop. I put alot of thought into the shape of the scoop and wanted whatever I did to flow with the shape and angle of the hood. One interesting challenge was that the Air filter element on my car was at an angle in regards to the hood. My idea to cope with that was to make the louvers wide enough to cover the spread. A buddy and I took the hood off, did some crude measurements to make sure the louvers were square to the hood. We used 1/2" (IIRC) masking tape to mark the lines in the hood leaving the gap of the cutoff wheel between the pieces of tape. Using a cutoff wheel, I slowly commenced to making the slices. When done, I flipped the hood over to cut the hood support beams out(the hood in that area is very strong, being on a curve). Then it was all Hammer and Dolly time with some filing to take away the sharp edges. Note to self.....Remove the damn paint before you do anything like this. It's a ***** afterwards with all the contours in the surface.

Totally COOL! I don't think, however, it will do any better than other, less intrusive mods that have been operational for 3+ years here on NAM.
Still, you get a unique point!
btw, all this looks a little like Photochop--but I stand to be corrected.
