OK... this is weird. I have the dealer-installed alarm with the flashing red stalk-end. For 5 months/5000 miles it has locked and armed without making any audio noise, just a flash from the exterior lights, and IIRC a thread on this board said it wasn't possible to induce an "arming signal noise."

Well, this morning as I parked at work I locked/armed the car and it made a confirmational sort of noise... a loud distinct chirp... not the car horn either, but a noise I have never heard before. The car seemed to arm properly. I disarmed/armed the car twice to investigate and it kept happening...

After reading about other peoples' electricial problems I am sort of on edge here -- has anybody else had this happen? Could I have inadvertently hit buttons in some mystic sequence to trigger a noise? Thanks...

The 'chirp' happens when you have a door or the boot/bonnet not latched fully. Check everything and try again. That's a cool feature of the alarm IMO.

That was exactly it -- the boot wasn't fully closed. Another feature I hadn't been aware of. From one bear to another... thanks!

Hey, my pleasure. Us bears have to help each other out when things get a bit, um, hairy...
