MINI CVT w/ 198,000+ Miles Dies. What To Do With It?

The CVT on my MINI Cooper with 198,000 miles just had a CVT failure. What Should I Do?

1) Fix it for $7,000+ like BMW/MINI would like us all to do?

2) Sell it for whatever I can get?

3) Tear it apart and sell all the parts seperately on e-bay?

4) Put holes in the floor for everyones feet and rock it like Fred Flintstone?

What should I do with the remnants of this disposable car?

What do you want to do with it?

Is it a car you'd like to keep and keep driving if the tranny were replaced?

What kind of condition is it in otherwise? Worn out thoroughly or just barely broken in?

Does it have any value to you, sentimentally or otherwise?

Once you answer those questions, your answer should be clear.......

A) You can look around at the junk yards for a used CVT to fix it. Much cheaper. Sometimes, some mechanics can help you do this.

B) Donate it to a trade school

C) Junk it. They will come and pick it up.

There's a 2004 CVT auto for sale in the Classic section of the marketplace for sale for 5500 with only 94,000 miles on the odo. I'm thinking combine the two!

That's pretty impressive that the CVT nearly made it to 200K miles.

I'm in agreement with MINIdave...your investment in its future depends on how much you're dedicated to keeping it.
