Front Mud Flaps Installation: Hints?

I just received front OEM mud flaps for my '09 Clubman.

While the instructions arent extremely clear it doesnt look too hard either.

However, there is one step that has got me guessing: "Cut out hatched area of the wheel arch trim until sheet metal nuts match with the transferred bores"

Do I really need to cut into the front wheel wells of my MINI? The thought has got me nervous. If anyone can shed some light on this I would greatly.... I mean greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

Thanks RKW!
All my searches and I never found that thread! Printed the PDF this morning and installed this evening. The info was invaluable. Only caveat is that I didnt have to jack the car up...just turned the wheels! The hardest part was the "pop-it thingy" at the end. The clips were tough as well...took me 40 mins to do both sides...thanks again!
