08 Auto Transmission service

Hi,

Anyone serviced their own automatic transmission and if so what does it involve and which is best fluid?

It's a sealed unit, like most all auto trannies sold on cars now are.

Sealed unit YES, serviceable YES the dealers say they are lifetime fills which is bull. The manufacture of the transmission do recommend a transmission service 60-70K.

So is it only the dealer who can do this service or can it be done at home?

Thanks so much for the help. I live over 110 miles from the nearest dealer and would prefer to just do the maintenance myself.

Other than being 110 miles away from yr. dealer, Im curious as to why U feel this needs to be done? Are U out of maintenence and/or warranty? If not, be careful: tampering with that tranny may void drivetrain-related future warranty work. Just a head's up.
