Drivetrain Clutch Info / How to?
Clutch Info / How to?
I have a 03 Mini Cooper S /w 70k miles and I'm getting ready to change the clutch/flywheel. Gonna go with the CM FX200 and their flywheel. My questions are:
#1 Is there any special tools I may need to do the job myself?
#2 I remember there is a repair manual I've heard mentioned here, can't think of the name of it, would it be helpful to get?
#3 Besides the obvious above items mentioned are there any more items I need to replace?
Thanks
Patrick

You'll need a clutch alignment tool and female torx sockets, 2 jack stands a floor jack and either another floor/tranny jack or some friends to help get the tranny out. It is small, but heavy and hard to handle. A jack will give your more time to line it up.
You should get some printed directions. There are a lot of things to remove and you'll want the torque specs too.
Basically, remove the front bumper and move the radiator forward. Drop the subframe, remove the intake parts in the way and pull the tranny. It is a lot of work, especially if you haven't had the car apart before. It is do-able in a home garage, just budget more time than you think. People will tell you it can be done in a long afternoon. They either have a lift and lots of experience or they haven't done one yet.
consider replacing bushings, balljoints, powersteering hoses/fluid, etc... while you have the subframe out.
Good luck to you!
