Thinking about adopting a used MINI...

So im thinking that i might just buy a used mini if i find one for a good price... the good and bad thing is: I cant find any.

Oh i can find plenty of used MINIs but when compared to their fresh from the factory counterparts the price difference is minimal.

Now I know the depreciation factor on MINIs is close to none but I was wondering if anyone on here that adopted their MINI were able to haggle with the dealership? And how much did you get the price down?

I really don't want to buy one older than a 2007 and id rather have an S.

Thanks!

(P.S. - What the freak is wrong with the MINI dealership and their used cars?! Their "up for adoption" minis are a good 2-3 grand more then any other dealerships out there. )

I bought a used MINI back in March (1st Gen cabrio, but the advice holds true).

I looked all over the country - there were very few cabrios available in my local area. Use Autotrader.com and Cars.com to narrow your search down. Don't limit your search to MINI dealers or only your immediate area.

Ask someone from NAM to check it out if it is too far away to test drive, or order an inspection (@$100) and a Carfax. Even if you have to pay for a flight out & drive it back, you can save a bunch of money - especially if the car has been for sale for a few months.

And always haggle car prices! Once I had the search narrowed down to the cars that had the options I wanted, we called a bunch of dealers/private sellers all over the US and offered them lower prices that what was advertised. Some laughed at us (well, maybe not laughed, but we were politely turned down a few times). But one seller accepted out offer. My SO flew out and drove my new MINI home. Took a couple hundred dollars and a few days for travel (he had some days off work anyway, so that worked out), but in the long run it was cheaper because the car was such a great deal.

Thank you! So you got your car from a private seller or a dealership other than MINI?

It was a Toyota dealer - in Ft Collins, actually. The car had been there since December (guess there isn't much market for cabrios there in the winter, either!), and they were getting ready to send it off to auction. They had to actually send someone to get the car back to the dealership. So, instead of selling it at auction, they sold it to us. I was happy because it was a great price for such a low-millage cabrio.

Look at eBay, too.
