First victory for Team Octane at Mosport

Victory in the wet and second place finish for Alain Lauzière and his MINI Cooper S for race 1 and 2 at Mosport`s Victoria Day SpeedFest weekend.

Alain Lauzière, driver of the #47 Octane Motorsport MINI Cooper S, took the lead of the Touring class in the second corner and never looked back to win the first of the two Castrol Touring Car races on Saturday May 16th. The race was run in wet conditions. “For a wet race it was very uneventful” mentioned Lauzière. “I’m lucky to be driving a MINI Cooper S which comes from the factory with a fantastic ABS system and an electrically-heated front windshield. The car is so easy to drive that it would make any driver look good” claimed Lauzière. The win was obtained after qualifying in second position, 2 tenth of a second behind the brand new Honda Civic Coupé of Anthony Rapone, driving for the Durabond team.

During the second race which ran on Sunday, Lauzière had to settle for second position, after starting up-front, based on the previous day`s results. Lauzière took the early lead, but Rapone caught the MINI Cooper S after 7 laps. The two ran nose to tail for the next 10 laps, exchanging the lead during multiple occasions. Lauzière tried one last attempt to regain the lead on the final stretch, but came-up short by less than half-a-car – 149/1000th of a second to be precise. “Wow! That was a lot of fun! Anthony and I exchanged position like 10 times during the final stretch. He drove really well and deserves the win. We never touched once even while being so close for so long!” explained Lauzière. “I’m happy we’re leaving Mosport with the Championship lead”.

Very nice!

One question though... "electrically-heated front windshield" ???

Is this some new fangled R56 option I'm not aware of?

Heated front windshield is an option in some countries like Canada. Think of it as your defroster for front windshield.
