Great question, especially today: I've had Yoko AVS 100 ($94 ea., great traction, low mileage: 17,000), Pirelli P6 ($104/ea.,poor dry traction, ok mileage: got 36,000 - 50k warranty), and TODAY at 2pm I'm getting BF Goodrich g-force Supersport A/S [205/50/16]. They are $111 ea. with a $70 rebate at America's Tire. Based on my research they are better traction than the Pirelli's with smooth ride and 30k warranty. Ditched my run-flats along time ago after I had a sidewall puncture.

My Tire Sponsor, www.fasttire.us gave me a set of Cooper Zeon's that I really like, http://www.coopertires.com/html/products/tires_uhp.aspx
My last two sets before them and after the OEM Dunlapped tires were http://www.thefuzionzone.com/hri.asp and I liked them very much too.

Bridgestone Potenza R019's 195/55/16 HP All Season
You didn't mention whether or not summer tire or all season.
I have the Bridgestone Ultra High Performance All Season Tire above - I run them at 32 psi and rate them as follows on scale of 1-10, 10 being the best:
Appearance: 10
Tread wear: 10
Road Noise: 9 ( Some tires get real noisey after just 20,000 miles....)
Handling: 9
Ride Comfort: 10 ( handle road holes ect nicely too )
Wet Weather driving: 10
Light Snow: 9
Heavy Snow: 7 ? ( what the heck, what tire IS actually great in more than 6 inches of snow anyways, especially in a car that weighs only 2,500 lbs...)
Hope this helps. And remember, you get what you pay for

Gray Raven,
Checked out your Gallery; nice lookin' ride.
I live in Houston, but will likely look at all-season v. summer only. Our Winters can get a little chilly for a few days (
). You know, with Global Warming and all.

Certainly if comfort is more important than handling, they're the most comfortable ones I've run so far. Handling is pretty good. Treadwear doesn't look like the best, but that's at the bottom of your list. Tire rack lists them at $85 each.
Any reason you're going for /55 not /50?

I'm concerned about the ride comfort. These run-craps have really put a bad taste in my mouth. I've never really paid attention to tire size prior to my Mini.
What are your thoughts on 50s v. 55s???

Since I switched from run flats I have had 205/45/16 (Yoko AVS 100) which were great in turns because of the low profile sidewall, but it also made them much very bumpy on the highway (I could feel the proverbial paint lines on the road). Since then I have found I like the 205/50/16 best - softer ride with decent response.
