SO this doesn't really have much to do with MINIs but it seemed like a great place to put this story.

Well if anyone has been following my threads in the interior/exterior section you will know that i have been working on murdering my MINI. Well my girlfriend has no clue about cars. She doesn't see them like many of us here see them as more than just a way to get from point A to point B. Well i had a sleepless night working on the murdering, again she has no clue why i would do that for a car. She would rather spend the night awake in bed fooling around, also something i have not slept for. Well the other night we were out with friends. One of which is my oldest friend who is a car guy as well. He has a Grand Cherokee SRT-8. We were talking for a minute about what i was working on with my car. My girlfriends jumps in and says how great it came out and how much it has changed the look of the car. She haad already complimented me on it but it was nice to here it again. So I get up to use the bathroom and on my way out my buddies girl is going into the ladies room. She stops me and tells me how great my girlfriend is. This is the first time she has meet these friends. Well she just said the nice stuff about my car to be nice. She said when i went to the bathroom that she had no clue what i was doing to my car and couldn't tell any differance. Well most people would be upset but it makes me really happy that even though she has no clue what i'm doing she will at least act interested as i do with the arts and crafts she does.

Has anyone else come across this with girlfriend/wife?

You know... I think it's wonderful that she would compliment you even if she doesn't get it. That is the start of a good relationship forming. She doesn't need to lie. She just needs to say things like, "Well, I don't understand why you went to all this effort, but I think you did a great job and I'm proud of you." THAT is the sort of stuff that keeps couples together.

As far as my relationship goes, I'm really not an arts and crafts sort of girl. To give you a little background, I'm the wife that squealed when her husband told her that he wanted to install a 100" home theater system in the basement. I tried to talk him into getting a 42" sony bravia for the living room... I detail my own car. I am not afraid to get my hands dirty under the bonnet. I am not... your average girly girl. I admit to liking shoes and handbags, but I only own a glue gun for quick and dirty house hold repairs (works great on reattaching corner trim pieces on your baseboards). I have never used it to make jewelry.

My MINI is very important to me, but when it was time for a new car, my hubby really didn't understand why it had to be a MINI. I tried to explain how I had felt after I test drove an 04 on a used car lot here. I couldn't explain the awesome feeling that driving this car gave me. He really did not get that at all, but instead of saying no, he called the dealership. He scheduled the test drive and bought Viola for me for my birthday.

Now, after having driven my MINI, he wants one of his own, but the fact that he was willing to spend the money on something that he didn't really understand at the time... yeah... I married an awesome guy.

I'm a lucky gal... I think you might just be a lucky guy.

Yeah my girlfriend sticks up for me. When my boy's girls go out on a girl's night out with my girlfriend, their always ragging about guys and their cars "boys and their toys." All the money spent on cars. My girlfriend usually sticks up for me. Her response is "I love the MINI just as much as he does" and also the "Cars to guys is like make up to girls"
