I am thinking about buying the checkerboard roof graphic from the local mini dealer here in WNY. They get $196.00 for the graphic and $311.75 to install. I think the install price is a little high. I was hoping to get some input on the labor charge & opinions on whether I should try to install myself or go ahead and pay the dealer. In other words is it worth the money to have the dealer do it? Any opinions on having the roof painted with a checkerboard pattern?

 

Hello, From Illinois here. I did the checker board roof to Henrietta for a grand total of $40.00. I went to my local sign show, don't go to a big name shop, just go to a ma&pa shop their cheaper, and picked up a few pages of 9 year vinyl cut in squares in the size of my choice. I have never put any kind of decals on before in my life but figured if I screw it up its only $40.00, but if it comes out good I just saved a couple hundred bucks. I used the soap and water method, their suggestion, and finished in about an hour and a half. Came out great. Go ahead do it yourself save the cash for something else.

There's a BIG difference from a full roof graphic and vinyl squares. Not only in the cost of the vinyl, the method of install, but also the PITA factor for the individual squares.

I can't imagine trying to polish/wax a roof that has all those vinyl edges on it. If you're not getting a build up in all those edges, you're either very patient and taping all those edges before you detail, or you're not detailing.

Get the full roof graphic. But don't pay that much to have it installed. I paid $125 for a pro and he did a very nice job.
