R50/53 Insurance payoff (kinda) came through
Insurance payoff (kinda) came through
The insurance check came through and I purchased my new MINI Saturday. I am pleased (and slightly frightened) with it.

Can anyone tell me what color this really is? It was listed as "Space Blue Metallic," but I can't find any other site that shows this color correctly. I need to know because there're a lot of chips in the hood and I need to purchase some touch-up paint. Also, where would be the best place for a Californian to buy touch-up paint? I read something on here that said CA dealers weren't selling touch-up paint due to the container?

It is indeed space blue, I have the same color as you can see in my garage. I have a similar problem with paint chips, this has to be the most brittle color they offered. I haven't purchased any touch-up paint since I'm afraid that the touch-up will show up differently being a metallic paint, I'm hoping to just get the car re-sprayed and a clear-bra put on.
Great color choice BTW, it's rare to see non-checkmate Space Blue cars and even rarer to see them with a body colored roof.

Space Blue metallic was only offered on 2006 MY hardtops (Both MC and MCS). It was the outgoing color for the R53 and made only 1 year. Space Blue can be found on the 2006 model year only "Checkmate" editions with silver roof and mirror caps. However, it could be ordered outside of the Checkmate package.
The color code for Space Blue Metallic Clearcoat is A49
You can get an excellent paint chip repair kit here:

BTW, the car looks fantastic.

I think you are confusing it with "Horizon Blue Metallic" which is new for 2009MY MINIs. It is a tad similar to Space Blue Metallic, but not the same.
Looking at the pics, the front bumper cover needs to be re-aligned properly. I see some gaps between it and the hood. Typically dealers (and other repair facilities) re-attach the bumper cover the lazy way, and that is, by doing it while the car is still up on the lift. When you do it that way, you are guaranteed to have a poor fitting bumper cover.
The proper way to do it, is with the car on the ground. Have them remove the front bumper cover and re-install it with all 4 wheels firmly set on solid ground. This is the correct way to installing the front bumper cover and you'll be able to align it properly with the bonnet.
It should take an 1 or less to do it properly by a reputable repair shop.

Hey, so are you in Santa Cruz, CA, noticed the delavega plates, several of us in the area. Gotta do a mountain run sometime. Check under the hood theres a plaque near shock tower that states the color. Also, you can get the touch-up paint from Moss MINI in Golete, CA, check their website, also try Morrisstown and Classic MINI. I think its cause CA law now only allows water based paints, and MINI makes oil based, which is better, but environmental concerns

I actually live in Davis. Just bought the MINI there. I would like to do a run sometime.
I posted a thread earlier about it. My first MINI (because of which I registered here in Nov 08) was totaled by a rear-end collision. A Ford Explorer hit me at a pretty good clip, completely missing my bumper.
Great roads out there too, head out of Davis on the 128 towards 505 i think, the one that takes you to Winters, keep going past winters to passed a damm and lake Berryeassa on the 128 til it ends near St. Helena then turn back and do it again. Its hella fun! And if you want to continue the adventure, turn south on the 129 and in a few miles exit west on Oakville Grade continue west turns into Dry Creek Road (you can go south on dry creek too) then it will turn to Trinity Rd. Careful on Trinity Rd its a blast but it could bite you in the ****, lots of off camber, decreasing radius, hairpin, and elavation changes around the turns. It will take you to the 12, then turn back and do it again. Off 128 theres plenty of side roads to take around the lake, like wragg canyon, steele canyon. Pointers: Fillup at chevron on the 505, cause theres no gas til St. helena and pack a flashlight, flares, fix-a-flat can, air compressor, or spare tire, aaa card, credit card for gas, charged up cell phone, eventhough 70 percent if the trip there will be no reception.

I really like the 128. I've been out there a couple times past Winters.
