Friend selling clients 2004 Cooper S with Dinan

My friend know I'm into Coopers so she wanted to let me know that she is selling a clients (she is a lawyer) 2004 Cooper S
Here is what she sent me

2004 Chili Red Mini Cooper S
Dinan modified and warrantied
Standard transmission - 6 speed
32,000 miles
wire wheels plus many extras
asking $25,000 (serious deal for the right buyer!)

Owner's verbage:
"Might not be the fastest in Baltimore area, but definitely in the top 5.
Never raced or abused. Must be seen to be appreciated."

Agree on that! I recently bought an 04MCS Chili Red and very nicely equipped with <8000 miles from a dealer for 17K, (excluding taxes, fees, yada, yada, yada.) I DO think I got a good deal, however 25K sounds awfully high.

I paid 21 for my 06 MCS with 12k miles on it about a year ago, I doubt the Dinan package adds that much value. I think I would opt for the GP with 9800 miles for 26k

The Dinan package may even detract from its value to many. And also might be used to assume the car was driven very hard.

To some it may increase the value but a much narrower market.

I think about $15000 to $16000 would be right for that car.

I agree. This thing is overpriced. I can get a barebones 2009 R56 S hardtop for that much money.

Remind your friend that we are in a deep recession/depression market. Unless the car is priced realistically he or she will be better off keeping it and enjoying it.

Oh and it top of it all is a 2004.

Remind your friend also that 2005 and 2006 MINIs received power upgrades from the factory (And a whole host of other improvements) that make her 2004 less desirable for the buyer "In the know".

At $25K, it's a serious deal for the seller if she can find the right buyer!!

"Might not be the fastest in Baltimore area, but definitely in the top 5.
Never raced or abused..."
Inconsistent logic alert! How would you know it was in 'the top 5' if you'd never made an 'effort' to find out?

I'd say high teens at most - may want to find out what 'Dinan Modified means' - they do anything from a simple exhaust to a IIRC 'Stage 3' upgrade.
Wire wheels? Do they mean R90s??

And when you say Dinan equipped, what exactly do you mean, suspension, CAI, exhaust, software, throttle body? I would say they are asking a bit much of a 2004, Dinan or not. I agree that 18,000 or thereabouts would be tops. Tough times, realistic measures.

Was wondering about wire wheels myself. I'm picturing gold 13" lowrider wheels

When I first got Emily ('02 MCS, Chili Red W/a Black Hat), I VERY briefly entertained this idea.
fortunately, sanity returned.

What is it with lawyers. I bought mine from a lawyer.

He was asking $18K for a 2003 48K Mini Cooper S. It wasn't selling so I offered $16K back when gas prices were high.

I said no at 1st but he came back 3 weeks later and said yes.

Modifications don’t typically add value so for $25K I’d go buy a new one that has a bumper to bumper factory warranty.

For $25K you'll get a dash plaque stating this MINI is among the fastest top 5 in the Baltimore area".

Yippie!

Besides, it's got the tall geared pre-'05 tranny. Not the car you'd want for a screamer.

For $25k, you can get a brand new MINI S 2009. It might not be the top 5 in Baltimore area, but it sure is Mini only belongs to YOU!
