How to read oil dipstick on '03 MCS?
The owner's manual on my girlfriend's car is not at all clear with respect to this. Can I assume that the top of the crosshatched area is "full", and that the bottom of the crosshatched area is "one quart low"? The answer seems obvious, but I wanted to make sure. Thanks in advance for your help.
Yes.
The manual has all sorts of requirements - up to operating temp, off for five minutes, but it works pretty much like normal. The toughest part is seeing the oil mark on the stick!

Simple and easy way to read your oil dip stick: Have a clean paper towel handy.Place the towel on a flat surface. Withdraw your dip stick and lay the flat side of the indicator end on the towel surface. A distinct mark will transfer to the towel surface that even new oil can't hide. Compare the oil mark with the indicator on the end of the stick. The lower end of the indicator mark suggests a need for approximately one quart.
