What have we here?

Background. This is a 06 MCSc that I bought used. The PO had a system installed into the boot that I will show you a picture of. Not clear in the picture but I will describe what I think is some of the situation as best I have figured out.

Now... keep in mind I don't have the Door sheet so I am not certain of the exact options installed. It does appear to have premium package and includes Courtesy entry stuff and has the Radio control in the steering wheel. Does not have security system but seems to have every single other option in it.

Appears to also maybe include some part of an iPod interface (I say this because the separate little iPod interface manual is in there with all the other owners manuals and the cord used in the trunk has a BMW tag on it.

Also has Phone buttons in the steering wheel but no separate owners manual for Phone in with all the manuals.

Now it appears she had a power point tagged on to the battery in the back with a cord. Nicely done too. Then she seems to have had a Sirrus radio in there too and then some various splitters that seemed to have allowed her to tap into both that Sirrus radio and an iPod from back there.

Note that the iPod adapter cord has a BMW tag on it and notes for Mini. The box (Yellow one) also mentions BMW and Mini.

So what have we here? What I am wondering it two things. Can I somehow move this contraption to the front thereby using it for an iPod but locate it in the glove box? I imagine I will have to pull the radio to see but this should be easy enough. But will I need this contraption and its two boxes. to make it work?

And how can I determine if she purchased the Blue Tooth system for the Phone or not?

I will say that the iPod connection in the trunk does work and works well. However the radio displays only track number. The radio controls in the steering wheel do function to advance or retreat to next track as they should. And volume control also works. But it does work well.

There are also two RCA cables in this contraption. White and Red. And a Digital plug as well.

I guess what I am wondering most is if these other boxes are just to send signals back through one cord to share the iPod connection or are they key to it working now?

And how to I eliminate or find out if, I have Blue tooth to sinc my iPhone with or not.

I recommend you contact EAS - a vendor here - who sells the blitzsafe module you have installed as well as other options for audio connectivity. They can help you figure out what you have and what the options are.

Very few 1st gen cars actually have the bluetooth option - but all with the multifunction steering wheel have those buttons. Bluetooth was a $1200 option... but I don't know where to look to be sure...

If I could figure out what screens should pull up if it was there or what screens would never pull up I could eliminate it. Problem is that if you don't know the correct sequences of these sorts of things you might overlook it and dismiss it too early. I would like to rule it out. A search here reveals very little detail of early ones with that option. I am inclined to say it doesn't because there is no little special booklet with the others. But the fact there is a booklet for the iPod add on makes me wonder about other options it may have had.

Ok I got some additional info on the Items she had back there

The Blitzsafe box is the XM SLD 03 and on the label on back it says with passthrough to ad an XM radio and still allow use of OEM iPod interface. And the web site confirms that.

http://blitzsafe.com/catalog/bmw/bmw.../prod_141.html

So what she had back there was a XM radio

So then the other box after that must be the OEM iPod interface. Which is now located in the trunk. So I imagine it used to be up front but... where? Wonder where it was stashed when it was up front?

Also found it worked using a first edition iPhone as an iPod as well. So IF I could find it had blue tooth I could use the iPhone for both! But... only if up front and it has Blue tooth or I add Blue tooth by an aftermarket means.

Good thing is that it is all there and functional. And heck... I can just leave it alone and put the iPod back there. But it appears I could pull the radio, put that interface in line with a shorter cord and bring it all up and put it in the glove box easy enough.

Just don't know about the phone though.
