Was looking at mini2.com and saw something called half leather. It's cloth and leather upholstery. Looks great and would overcome some of the problems with leather in hot and cold conditions without sacrificing the look. Unfortunately, somebody on that site said it's not available in the U.S. Is that true? Does anybody know if you can special order it? And if you can, how much it would cost?

I don't think it is available in the US, not even for special order. You have 3 seat upholstery material choices in the US MINI: Cloth, Leatherette and Leather. Leatherette (vinyl) would be the closest thing to a compromise between the comfort of cloth seats and the softness/comfort/stain resistance of real cowhide.

Perhaps you can get half cloth/leather upholstery as an aftermarket add on. Could well be worth it exploring this possibility.
