Replacing 195s with 205s

I'm purchasing a 2009 Mini Clubman-S. I plan to replace the run flats. Will 205s fit on the OEM 195 rims that come with the car? There are so many more choices in the 205 size.

Any recommendations? Looking for comfort and handling.

Thanks gang!

You didn't mention which diameter rims are on the car you are speccing, but since the 195 width OEM tires, assuming the 16" wheels. Those wheels are 6.5" wide and will allow mounting most 205 width tires without significant sidewall bulge.

As for a tire recommendation, virtually any non-run flat tire (summer performance spec, ideally) should improve both comfort and handling over the OEM run flats. I'd recommend Hankook RS2s for performance (and low price) but they may be overkill for your driving style.

Thanks Goat. I've just been reading about melting hood scoops. Have you had any issues with this? The pic above looks like an S model.

Thanks again.

I think he has a gen. 1 Cooper S. They didn't have that problem. Also, I don't believe the hood scoop melts, it just warps. I was under the impression that this was fixed on the 09's, but I could be wrong (as I don't even remember who told me that ). Anyway, if you're concerned I would suggest the M7 turbo heat shield. Good stuff.

My MCS will be a year with me in March. The top center of my scoop sags about 3/16ths of an inch close to the CL. I'm in no hurry to replace it with more of the same. Waiting for a permanent fix. Anyway, I think it gives my MINI a little character, sort of like a scar.
I run 16 inch wheels for autocross and previously used Hankook Ventu RS2's 215 x 45 x 16. I just replaced them with some Bridgestone Potenzas RE01Rs at 205 x 55 x 16 and am very happy with the stick, ride and look, but these have a very low wear rating! Good luck.

Yup, as MoxieMini says, I've got an R53 factory JCW (didn't care for the R56 and flipped it to go back to the R53, FWIW).

Good move on seeking slightly wider tires... enjoy the Clubman!

As others have indicated, the 205s fit the 16" MINI wheels nicely. I had them on my 2003 MC and they looked great.
