What is the "Wave" about?

I was warned when I bought my MINI that I was encouraged, obligated even, to wave at other MINI drivers, and I have read many threads on the subject saying the same thing.

Yesterday I was driving down Broadway when a new yellow mini with RS license fillers drove by me at 30 MPH with no acknowledgment at all. Then 5 minutes later I was at a stop light when a MINI of the same color even, pulled up right next to me. He didn't even look!!

So, what's the deal. Am I supposed to wave or not. Is the wave dead?

lol, well if ur ever in Wantage,nj i drive a BRG 06 cooper w/ Black bonnet stripes, and I always wave!!!! but i am a nice freindly person who beleives in community. some peolpe wave and some dont no matter what the age is, i don't think the wave is dead though it is just a freindly gesture and hello to poelpe who share a common interest with us so if they dont wave back they are either not paying attention, or are not a friendly person.

It's not as big a deal as it used to be, but it's good that you at least know about it. I suggest being prepared to wave at all times...there are still some folks out there who are pleasantly enthusiastic about this and it is fun. I always wave if some sort of visual contact is made....some don't acknowledge it, but some really do!!

there is no obligation to it. i wave sometimes other times i do not. i have always waved or pointed to drivers who are driving the same kind of car that i am especially if they have taken apparent good care or personalized the car a bit. it is nice to see other people enjoying the same stuff.
