2007 mirror mount vs. 1st gen mounts?

Someone knocked my driver's side mirror of my car (well, left it hanging by the wires) and totally destroyed the mount. I've been trying to order a new one, but it's been the biggest nightmare. According to almost all parts suppliers, the same mirror can be used for 2002-2007 Minis, however, the mirror I ordered requires 3 bolts, while mine appears to need just 2 bolts, and none of the bolt holes lineup.
The parts dealer is vehement that I'm wrong and the part will fit and won't take it back.
Has anyone else run into this?

(Good news is I was able to trace down a 2007 salvage & buy that mirror).

The supplier is sorta right, the 07 convertable is a 1st gen Mini. The 07 R56 is 2nd gen.

Yeah, I know the convertible is, but I specifically stated when ordering that I have a hardtop coupe, hence my frustration.

You say, "According to almost all parts suppliers..." By this do you mean the parts department at MINI dealers? If not, why not talk to them? They'll know if anyone does.
