My wife and I just returned from a wonderful vacation in Kauai, and we were shocked to see so many Minis driving around! How do you get them to Kauai?
We even saw a twin of Basil - Cool Blue/Blue top MCSC. I forgot that I was driving a POS chrysler tourist mobile, and started waving to Minis, so if you saw an old guy in a white sebring waving at you, it was me. Some of the roads really had me wishing I was in my Mini....

 

How did they get to Kauai? That would be Young Brother's Tug and Barge shipped from Oahu.

Is there any kind of passenger service between Kauai and Oahu? I noticed that Superferry travels from Oahu to Maui....

 

There sorta was.. First trip from Oahu to Kauai was protested by some very loud people on Kauai. They blockaded the barbor with surfers and wouldn't let the ferry land. It had to turn around and come back to Oahu. Ever since the ferry hasn't gone to Kauai. It was quite the scene and talk of the town.

 

Kauai does have MINIs but there is not a reliable place to service them.

Cars can be shipped by barge from Oahu to Kauai or back again.

The Superferry will not be going back to Kauai anytime soon. Right now it runs between Oahu and Maui up to twice daily and takes passengers and cargo including cars.

Next year or 2010 there is planned service to the Big Island from Oahu for the Superferry.

Glad you enjoyed your visit to Kauai. Nice place, scenic and they try to control growth but it's difficult.
