R50/53 R50 Thermostat replacement
R50 Thermostat replacement
Hi,
My first post.... I've been searching for a few months as i bought a used R50 last march and its been great so far.
I noticed it was running hot (slightly above the mid point) and i took it in to a local shop for the 100,000 mile tune up (a bit early its at 97,000 but inspection light popped on)
They did a "tune up" for $500 which was fine and recomended i have the thermostat replaced as it was "sticking" for imho too much $ (mostly shop's labor charge) but could sell the part...$40
I have grown accostomed to working on cars and figured i would save the money and diy the repair with success. Here is what i learned...
1. the thermostat is available at the all the "big chain" local parts stores the white rubber o-ring is not but can be salvaged (this might save you some $$ as the thermostat should run around $15)
2. remove the Air filter box and the Battery box to make it easy
3. make sure to bleed out air in the lines
Also during the repair i noticed the shifting cable linkage "clips" seemed shot
would replacing the entire cable or just the clips be necessary?
thanks DMC
