R50/53 Mini Cooper E? Electric Mini
Mini Cooper E? Electric Mini
Well, I'm a little taken aback .... an electric mini with a range of 1000 miles (at 80 miles per gallon), zero to sixty in 4.5, and top speed of 160mph.
Google the electric mini ... would love to hear your thoughts....

This link shows numbers of 0-62 in 8.5 sec., a top speed of 95, and a range of 150 miles... Seems a little more believable. The press release says they will make 500 of them in 2009, and they will be released in New York, LA, and New Jersey... There is also no back seat due to the size of the batteries.
When you lease (They will only be leased, not sold, at first) the car, you can get a special charging adapter installed at your home the charges the MINI E in 2.5 hours, or use a wall socket, but that would take much longer

Hmmmmm,
Two different articles and two somewhat different stories on where they are going and why?

The 1st article is an interesting read and it sounds like BMW will lease the vehicle to "Testers" for one year, with some strict requirements.

If you read carefully, the slower/less efficient/ shorter range version is powered by a front electric engine that sends power to the wheels via a front differential.
The quicker version has motors over the wheels themselves.... no differential, more efficient, and WAAAY faster.
Interesting that they aren't going with the better version.
