16" Bridge Spoke Replacement Tire Size
16" Bridge Spoke Replacement Tire Size
Hi All,
Thanks for helping me out.
I have a 2007 Cooper S with stock suspension and stock 16" Bridge Spoke wheels. I have read a bunch of threads which indicate that 205/55/R16 tires should work with my stock 16" wheels, but I have not seen anyone actually say, "I have 16" Bridge Spokes with 205/55/R16 tires and I haven't had any problems."
Does anyone have the stock 16" Bridge Spokes with 205/55/R16 tires?
Has anyone had any issues with turning and rubbing, hitting bumps, or driving in the snow with this size tire on stock 16" Bridge Spokes?
Thanks!
rmini
It is quite common among R56 owners to run 205 tires on 16" rims, be they OEM (e.g. Bridgespokes, etc.) or aftermarket (e.g. OZ Ultraleggeras, etc.) Aspect ratio of 50 gives a slightly smaller than stock diameter (and faster than reality speedo reading) while a 55 tire is close to or slightly larger than stock diameter. Either works well. For example I have 205/50/16 tires on my UL's, while Robin Casady runs 205/55/16 tires on his Rotas. In either case, there are no rubbing or other fitment issues. The 205/55/16 tires you are contemplating for your Bridgespokes will work perfectly well.
Which tire?
So what tire and size did you end up with? I'm at the same crossroads with my Bridge spoke, stock 2007 MCS.
I'm looking for the better grip, but most importantly, want to ditch the run-flats for an improved ride.
I'd be interested in your experience with the tire you chose, particularly since you've been running them a couple of months now.
Thanks in advance!

I'd check out the 205/50/16 Goodyear Eagle F1 D3's at TireRack for $49 ea. I got a set of these for my S Winder's and they are sticky as can be. I have 2 other sets of wheels and tires (both 17's) and this is my favorite set. Worth checking out.
I ended up with Kumho ASX in 205/55/16 on my 16" bridge spoke tires.
The quality of ride versus the run-flats is night and day. The car is much more comfortable and my teeth are going to last longer because I'm no longer gritting them over every bump in the road.
Handling appears to be about equivalent. No real improvement or deterioration. These are all-season tires so they probably aren't as sticky as the run-flats and the sidewalls are taller. They are a bit wider, though, so that probably is what makes them about equal overall.
I'm quite happy with them. I got a very small air compressor (with the Slime trademark) for $20 and a Dynaplug to carry around with me in case I have a problem.
