You guys will think I'm nuts, but I have an almost-new Becker Mexico head unit with the accompanying CD changer that I would like to swap out the stock MINI head unit with. I had this unit in my old Boxster and fell in love with it...it even has shortwave bands! At any rate, what's involved in doing this? The Becker is generally similar to an Alpine, at least in appearance. Is there a source for a harness connector? As for the peripherals, I figure it'd be a good idea to replace the speakers, in this case likely with JL Audio products. They have a nice subwoofer installation on their website plus a rundown of what speakers will go where....very well done.

That Becker Mexico is a nice looking unit. Will you post pics once you get it in? One of the only aftermarket units that seems like it could have a factory-ish look in the MINI.

These units are euro spec though aren't they? Problems auto-tuning bands?

This unit is very similar to the Becker Traffic Pro (just lacks the nav feature) that is now sold in the USA as the Harman Kardon Traffic Pro. I once spoke with Horst Becker (yes that Becker--he works for HK here in the states) about these units, you might ask to speak with him as he is quite knowledgable.

Good Luck.
