Used Rims for Winters

I have a 2004 Mini that currently has 17" rims and runs 205/40R17. I want to buy some smaller used rims, say 15" for some winters and I am concerned about compatibility of other rims, i.e. offset. I understand the various tires sizes I can deal with, but I don;t fully understand rims. It appears that perhaps rims from a 2003 Honda Civic might work.....????? Can anyone give me advice/options that I might have???? or point me in the right direction where I might be able to determine various compatibilities.
Appreciated

Find out the offsets of the wheels you're looking at and then compare to what the Mini will accept, which I think is anywhere from +35 (will stick out more) to +50 (will be closer to your brakes).

There are more expert people on here who know how to explain this stuff better.

the offset, lug pattern, and center bore should all be okay with those. The major concerns will be will it clear the suspension and front brakes (its unlikely a 15" would for the R56), and the lug bolt tapper. Honda usually went with a rounded lug nut, whereas ours are the more sensible 45° tapper. You might be better off if you could find used after market wheels that were on a civic, any of those would probably work.

You can go to tirerack.com and plug in your particular year and model MINI to get the rims that will fit and clear everything. Plus you can add winter tires and have them mounted and balanced before shipping to you.

You can likely use either 15" and 16" wheels that are priced about $100-140 per rim.

Call or email Alex@tirerack.com if you have questions.

I was also hoping to go the inexpensive route with steel wheels from another car maker (bone yard), I'm surprised Tire rack or some other dealer didn't have something. I have 08 S w/17"
