i got to drive my mini on mazda's testing road and i have never had so much fun driving. its a private road so there was no fear of cops, and none of my friends could keep up with me. the only bad part of the day was after the downhill section i burned up my brakes and had to wait for them to cool.
i might post a vid soon

my mini pops in about halfway through, the vid is decent but it gives a nice shot at what the road was like

Hey that looks like a road that connects San Gabriel Mt range to Mt Baldy area. Is it??? If so I drove that thinking it was a private service road (county) cause had gates but MINI fit around.

What other Mazdas were there?
BMW car club events are very very well organized and run. Often involving experienced track officials and crew to ensure safety for all at the event.
Usually a very worthwhile experience if you can find one nearby to sign up for.
What tires were you running on? The stock runflats or something else?

the road wasnt really intended to be raced on that day with a speed limit posted at 30, the raod was just the only way to get to a car show. and of course every1 drove it as fast as they could. one way up, and once down
Sometimes the best strategy given the situation is to make sure that the spacing between cars is even and big enough to let everyone safely negotiate the course. Faster guys first or stop and let the others go a bit before heading up or down instead of getting bunched up (3 cars in the video).
Bunching up is a common problem on the track or on a course. Experienced drivers will always seek to get better spacing one way or another.
If that driving was fun, check out a driving school. Could be interesting and also learn how to drive a long downhill course without overheating the brakes.
on the way down, we went in order from fastest to slowest. mini, 1 series, a3, a4. heres a better vid from the a3's point of view
