As long as he steers clear of windmills he should start unloading on 10/03 and the port should be loading them on rail around 10/09.

The first 2009's? I don't think so. Mine is a 2009 and it sailed on the 16th from Southampton and there were at least 2-3 ships earlier than mine with 2009 R56's. The first have already hit the East Coast of the USA. Don't think anyone has actually been able to pick them up yet though. And the first 2009 JCW's shipped even earlier. Check out the 1st gear forum for ship sailings and build weeks.

Those and many others are tagged 2009 models but were built on the last 2008 open production slots. The local dealer has two 2009 JCWs sitting around for weeks but is still waiting to receive the first of the real 2009 cars that he has had on order.
My information is that the first "post plant closing" cars were railed to Bremerhaven where they sat two weeks at dockside waiting to have enough numbers to fill the Don Quijote in destination of Brunswick. This could be wrong but it is what BMW told my sales mgr.
I'm tired driving my real car at 16 mpg.

Mine is a week 36 build which is the first week of production after the "plant closing". Is a true 2009. I don't doubt that maybe some of the week 36 build cars were railed to Bremerhaven as I don't know. Or maybe those were actually built in week 35 to test the new lines for 09's. I don't know that either. But plenty of 2009's are arriving on USA shores as I type, week 36 and week 37 builds. Does it really matter? No. There is virtually no difference between an 08 and an 09.
