Spring or strut problem....? (need help and opinions)

I have a question for the suspension guru's.

My brother and I just recently installed a set of TSW springs on my 04 S and noticed a wicked clunking noise after the install in the front left.
As we tried to diagnose the problem after several times removing the strut / springs and re-installing them we then noticed the front left spring was defective.
The top coils would bind up and make the clunking noise.
I quickly called TSW and they replaced my spring and gave me awesome customer service (thanks Jeff).
With the new spring on, I noticed I still get a slight noise and noticed that the springs binds/touches again but very very slightly.
Can this be that the front strut that is going and has no rebounding pressure (lost some gas pressure) to keep the spring from touching?

Which Then causes the spring to slightly touch the top coil? If So, can the spring loose it's stiffness and start to stay like this permanently if I don't replace the strut soon? I said to myseld that I won't drive the car until I get this resolved
Any recommendations or thoughts would be great.

I had a problem with the top two coils making contact over certain bumps. I ended up wrapping the second coil with rubber tape in the area that I could see scuff marks from the contact. A half a$$ed repair, but no more noise.

That's exactly my problem!
I actually had one springs defective and I'll be sending it back to TSW this week.
Now that the new spring is in place it slightly touches again but no were like the defective spring but it still makes noise (like a defective drop link).
Where do I get some rubber tape?
Could the touching spring coils be that I have a leaky strut that is weak and gives out when driving over bumps (that's why I hear the clinking)?

Not sure where the tape came from, check Home Depot or the local hardware store. I dont think the problem is the strut. My car only has 18K on it. Never had a problem until I installed the springs. I thought about calling or emailing texas speedworks, but decided it wouldnt be worth the trouble since I allready got the noise to stop.
