What would be the effect of cutting a hole in JCW airbox

Before I had my JCW Tuning Kit I had a DDM Intake. I loved the sound but felt the power delivery was slightly smoother with the Factory Box and Alta Panel Filter.

My question is - If I drilled some holes in the back side and end of the JCW Airbox would that possibly affect the Maf readings or throw off the ECU in any way. It would seem it would do nothing but give some of the Blow Off/ Diverter sound back and maybe cause the filter to get dirtier a little sooner. I could remedy the second part by getting a Cone filter I could clean like alta or madness. If I drilled mostly the back bottom portion and end bottom portion it would not even be seen without removing the box.

Can anyone with tuning experience or practical knowledge chime in. I would hate to give up on having the sound but I also am not sure about running an aftermarket intake with the JCW ECU Tune.

I would like to know this too. I just have a stock airbox on my Cooper S, but I would really like to hear the BOV on my car!!!

i doubt you would have an MAF CEL problem by doing that but you would then be increasing the temperature of the air going into the engine. I'm not an expert on this but MINI seems to think feeding the engine cool air is important. Maybe a BOV would give you the sound you are looking for without the negative implications?

Yes cold air is most important....thats the reason for an intercooler. Notice when its cold your car runs better..cold air is dense. I would explore a cold air intake before drilling the factory box...just my .02

Maybe you should try cutting a half in it first to see what it does before you
go all out and cut a whole.
