NGK plugs

I just bought some NGK Iriduim plugs and I forgot to ask about plug gap. The box doesn't say if they're pre-gapped or not. Does anyone know if they're pre-gapped and if not what I should gap them to....

Thanks

yes, already gapped. which is why they have the little cardboard protectors on the tip...to preserve the pre-gap

no, no they are not. Iridium models are not OEM MINI which means they are not gapped properly. Only models ending in 'IX' are pregapped and then, not necessarily for the MINI. Be sure to check the service manual and gap properly.

there are two options...one gapped, one not. thing is, even the gapped one may not be gapped properly for your application.

depends on your mods and how much fuel efficiency you want. anywhere from .32 to .40

What gapping is better for performance?
What spark plugs do you suggest for a 1 step colder than stock MCS application?

Here goes the "Pandora's box"

A) How do you know you need to go colder? Cause there are some that have so it must be so.

B) The gap depends on your mods and how you drive. You really need to do plug readings to find the ultimate gap.See A
Or stay the OEM specification.

here we go.........

JCW....BKR7's. As for the first question....spark plugs don't add power or fuel economy. they preserve it....depending on the mods and/or tune.

We tried BKR7EIX in my car and gapped at .32 and at .28...pinging still. We swapped for some Brisk Silvers and made 10 lb/ft of tq on the same map.

With my mods a NGK ZFR6FIX-11 gapped at .46 tried .50 but it started to miss at 5k rpm so I went back to .46
Now I run AC Rapid Fires at the same gap with no pining no problems.
Plug pictures is with 3k miles mountain twisties.
The point is every Mini is different, consider to stay with the oem recommendation unless you are willing to experiment and learn how to plug read correctly.

Brisk Silvers in my car gapped at .28 . Great plugs that "seem" to add a little power.

I am kinda new to the world of minis but when you increase boost beyond a certain point you use a 1 step colder plug to lower the chance of detination. I am not sure waht a 17% pully does to boost levels but 1 step cloder is not for hp gains as much as it is to save your engine.
Or you could just run meth. injection.

As for HP gains try using copper plugs, They provide more power. The only reason peopl use platinum and iridium is because the last longer. Some say If you use copper plugs that you have to change them every 10k miles or so but the perfomance is worth it.
I myself have never used copper plugs, I just like to research.

what kind of brisk plugs? I couldnt find plugs for the mini on there?
I have 15% pulley so I am guessing from what I read I have to go 1 step colder.

we carry 2 styles of the BRISK $40 for the plugs

we have the single electrode and the factory like 4 prong that work well with the pullied cars. The single are better for cars with a head and bigger boost
