Questions about the key fob

Since I just got the email from MINIUSA asking me for radio presets and other preferences to be programmed in my MINI, I realized that I had a bunch of other questions about the fob.

I know that each fob can be programmed independently. Why wouldn't MINI ask me for separate settings for each fob? Looking through the manual I downloaded from the OL, I don't see any way to program radio presets on the fob (though other settings such as driving lights are there).

How many radio presets are there on the MINI? MINIUSA just asked me for 6.

With the Comfort Access package, since you do not need to insert the key into the slot to start the car, or press the button on the fob to unlock, if both me and my husband have our keys and approach the car, whose will it recognize?

Anyone have preferences on the 10mph autolock feature? I've never had a car that did that (though have had rentals that did it and found it annoying), so I said "no thanks" to that option. Guess I never worried that anybody would want to get out of the car, or open the door, should we be traveling more than 10mph.

My dealer didn't program anything for me-- so I did each one myself. The nice thing is you can change your mind on features and reset them.

I don't really use the radio (I'm almost always on my iPod) so I can't help you on the pre-sets. But, whatever you set with that key in the car is what it will use. If you use the other key in the car and set those pre-sets, then it will retain the different ones.

With comfort access, the first one to the car "wins".

I like the auto-lock. But I have it on our other cars too. I actually double pull on our SUV's doors out of habit now...

Not sure whether they set both the same, or just set one. My MA did it while I was there and only set one.

I wouldn't worry about it, you can set or change them yourself.

I don't use the radio, but I don't think it has more than six. Again, you can set them yourself.

I think it uses whichever it recognizes first. I wouldn't rely on that, though.

Some people think it is safer to drive with doors lock to keep it from opening in a crash. I don't know whether that is true or not, but don't lock mine unless I'm going through a questionable neighborhood. If you lock them, you have to either pull the door handle twice to get out, or unlock them with the toggle on the dash.
