So, is it critical to use plastilube to lube the pad contact locations? Unlike the OEM pads, I purchased Hawk pads and they do not come with plastilube or any other lubricant.

Is it OK to use a different lube grease, or is plastilube the ONLY thing that will prevent squeal?

I have a product that is in a little squeeze bottle, feels like grease, but does dry tacky. It is brake squeal stop, or something like that. Anyway, is a product like this good enough, or do we need to stick with plastilube and nothing else to ensure quiet braking?

Any kind of brake grease/lube/goo will work. I used some cheapo junk from work on my EBC's and they squeak on the first or second stop and then it's only in the cold. Just make sure it gets on the ears, backing plate, and slider pins. And don't be afraid to use quite a bit.

 

Also, if the brakes are bedded in properly and the job done right (either cut rotors or preferably replaced, greased pads, cleaned caliper sliding areas), you shouldn't have any noise. If you don't touch the rotors and the brakes make some noise, that's more than likely why. Just make sure to brake clean the calipers well to clean out any built-up dust, as well.

 

Thanks for the advice. I think I will take a ride to the local auto parts store for some generic contact point lube, put 'em together and get them set-in.

 

There are tubes on the rack, but typically if you ask at the counter they have small packets that's jst enuf for one job. Then you don't get to loose the tube for next time....
