New Shoes for Cooper S

After installing 4 Continental run flats replacing the OEM Dunlop run flat there are two things I noticed almost immediately. First the Continentals are so much more quiet, a very pleasant benefit. Secondly, they seem to out perform the Dunlops in handling and cornering. Third, it may be my imagination but it takes fewer RPMs to get the same speed as with the OEM tires.

Interesting observations! That's something I would look into for my MINI for sure.

It is too soon to tell but it might be that these new tires translate to better fuel efficiency. Not that my mileage is all that bad coming in at an overall average for four years at 28.7 MPG. They sure seem to roll a lot easier.

Which runflats did you have, and what model and size Continentals did you replace them with?

I replaced the OEM Dunlop SP Sport 9000 DSST with Continental ContiProContact SSR. The size of both brands is 205/45 17.

Update:

Rolling Resistance a lot lower with the Continentals. In 6th gear @ 3000 RPM I am geting 75 MPH opposed to 70 MPH with the Dunlops. The first two tanks of gas resulted in a 3-4 MPG increase with the Continentals both on the road and in town.

The Ride is firmer especially in corners and the handling is a lot better with the Continentals. The biggest difference with the Continentals, they are QUIET at all speeds and on different road surfaces. Overall, I rate the Continentals far superior to the Dunlop run flats.

Are you still happy with the ContiProContact SSRs?
