Did Dunlop Revise the Sport 01 Runflats?
Did Dunlop Revise the Sport 01 Runflats?
I picked up my MCS end of May this year. After reading all the unanimously negative comments here about the runflats, mine didn't seem to be quite as bad as had been described. I now have 2K miles on the tires and it seems that either the suspension has relaxed somewhat or the tires have broken-in since the ride feels more compliant compared to new. Either that or I just got more used to the ride.
Now here's my question: I just noticed that Tirerack lists two separate Sport 01 tires. One is labeled SP Sport 01 DSST and the other SP Sport DSST RunOnFlat. Sure enough, I checked my tires and the sidewalls have the RunOnFlat marking in a circle. So does this mean the Dunlop Sport 01 tires have been improved or revised in any way? This is just a matter of curiosity since I still think the replacement cost for these tires is downright stupid, no matter how much they may have been improved.
Please post any knowledge you may have on this issue.

I'm curious about this too!
I've only got 1000KM on my new Cooper S Clubman, but the ride with these tires (and sport suspension) isn't really that bad - certainly not bone jarring, and feels (this will sound weird) comparable to our '06 Murano SE (also with so-called sport suspension).
My tires have both the "DSST" and the "RunOnFlat" markings on the sidewalls.
According to TireRack, the ROF tires are only available in 16" and 18" replacement sizes, and not the 17" OEM size (205/45R17).
I'm planning on running a dedicated set of winter tires, so these will only be on the car for half the year...
