J.D. Power & Assoc. 2008 Quality Study
J.D. Power & Assoc. 2008 Quality Study
Hello, all
I was reading the June 9 issue of Automotive News, and wanted to share this article on page 42 entitled "Mini's mixed results; sales soar, quality stumbles."
"BMW's little MINI brand came up big in May, but started June with a full-sized dose of bad news.
The brand had the biggest U.S. sales increase, on a percentage basis, of any brand in May, up to 52.8 percent from May 2007. Although that was only 6,312 sales, it's still a sign of progress.
Then came the bad news: Mini had the second-worst ranking in the 2008 J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Study released last week. The study rallies problems reported by owners of new vehicles in the first 90 days of ownership. Mini owners reported 163 problems per 100 vehicles, only the jeep brand was worse, with 167. Mini wasn't included in the study last year because of a small sample size and was below the industry average in 2006.

Quality aside
Ford sold some 6,545 Mustangs (some sort of American Icon, I guess) in January 2008. Bout as many MINIs, and rising these days. MINIs making Mustang obsolete????
My guess is that MINI owners just love going to the dealership so much, we tend to report every little thing. At least I did. Got it all resolved early, nothing broken in the last 2 years.
