R56 Dumb Q: how to remove trunk cover
Dumb Q: how to remove trunk cover
Sorry for my lack of proper MINI terminology, but is there a way to remove that cover piece when you close your trunk? It gets in the way when I put my seats down and want to put larger items in my trunk/boot. I'm not even sure of the right name -- trunk cover, lid, ??? Thanks.
Disconnect the strings that loop around the ***** on the hatch interior (by the glass).....then simply pull the rear parcel shelf towards the back of the car. It'll pop out of place (no fasterers)....I do one side at a time. To replace it, pop it back into place and replace the strings. You might have to push on it good till you feel it pop into place...otherwise the boot hatch won't close perfectly. Good question....ya never know how much to force these things.
Also, here's a little spacing hint--you can store the hatch cover behind the front seats if you face it with the curved "cut out" over the hump, and the carpeted side facing forward. (Works with the piece facing backwards, too, although not as compactly.)
I can add nothing on the partial shelf, our fellow motorers were most thorough, so here're some MINI terms (U.S. translation in parens):
Boot (trunk)
Bonnet (hood)
Cockpit (driver's seat)
head lamps (headlights)
fog lamps (fog lights)
cabin (interior)
motor (to drive)
glove box (glove compartment)
There are more, Britishisms all. But a word of caution, speaking MINI to non-motorers (other drivers) could result in their eyes glazing over.
