R52 please help picking a color
please help picking a color
Its funny, I kinda already have a name picked out for my convertible.. I am ordering it but need a bit of help in choosing a color as the dealers around here don't have a huge selection to choose from.
I am open to anything and any color top combo. While I would like to make it unique, I need a color that I won't get sick of too soon as this will be my last new car for quite some time.
PICTURES!!!! Speak a thousand words as well as detailing how the paint has held up..
On my recent japanese cars, the paint was HORRIBLE, lots of chips etc..
I know there will be bias but thats OK.. Please no negative remarks UNLESS its from a purely functional point of view.. For example: That *color* has a real tendency to chip/fade/swirl etc.
I know these have been done before but please remember I am new to MINI world and would like lots of opinions.
I can't begin to tell you how important this board has been to me. When I started looking a couple of months ago, I had no idea what the difference was between the R53 and R56 or R52 or even that there was a new MINI
Have fun showing off your car! I appreciate it!
Pete

Well, I'm kinda partial to Mellow Yellow. I figured if I was going to get a fun car and something that you don't see every day, I wanted to make it really stand out.

My short list if I were planning on ordering a new cabrio today:
Nightfire Red/Blue (cooper only
would be a very unique cabrio)
Pepper White/Blue
Lightening Blue/Black
I haven't seen the White Silver so I can't comment in that one, but the Sidewalk interior is top notch.

Hmmm... Nightfire with a blue top would be very unique for sure!!
Thought of the blue with Pepper white but there is no blue anywhere on the car other than the top itself.. so.. meh..
Not really a blue fan.. sorry..
thanks for the suggestions..

Im still recommending the Pepper White. Now, here is why. (of course biased). I just got this car two weeks ago, but I was going through the same dillema as you were. I definately wanted the sidewalk package as that malt brown leather is so gorgeous. If you chose that package, you have a limited selection on the exterior color, so many of the fun wild colors that is so "Mini" are not available. Those colors really dont go well with the Malt Brown. I thought the other colors that were available in that package were too muted, so it came down to either astro black , white silver or pepper white. I love love black cars, but having had a few, swirl marks absolutely drove me nuts and keeping it clean was next to impossible. The white silver is stunning really, and very unique, but when i compared it to the pepper white, I just didnt think it was as elegant. What I think you get with the Pepper is a car that is fun, but you would look great getting out of it an upscale function as well. Its just so classic. My two cents. Whatever color you chose whether or not you get the sidewalk, is going to be great and you will love it
Jet Black rulesssssssssssssssssssss !! Sorry, you can't have it. MINI made their worst ever decision when the stopped producing JB cars.
Rumor has it that in 2009, they will bring back a true black, but it will be a metallic color, not like Jet Black.

Of the current colors offered, I prefer CR (of course), BRG, or Laser Blue.

And if you're not OCD, you won't mind a little dirt or a few swirls.

If you will look in my gallery, there are some pics of Sgt Pepper. I had the interior done in custom dark green leather, that nearly matches the top. Although there is no green elsewhere, the anthracite trim goes well, I think. I have not seen another like it, but I hear there are a few scattered about the midwest. Hope you like.
Nearing the end of production
Just don't wait too long if you want a 2008 Cabrio. Word has it that production will end in late June as MINI starts gearing up for 2009 models (delivery next year). Probably not a lot of production slots left for 2008s.
I totally agree with you on this one. One of the reasons I wanted this year instead of next is the old design. I am not a fan of that huge dish like speedomoter with the radio in it in the new ones. Plus I am not sure if the sidewalk package will be available next year. I cant imagine they would not offer that malt leather as it is so amazing
I think an easy way to narrow the color choice down is to decide if you want to pay $500 for a metallic paint. If I have one beef about MINI it's that MOST of their colors cost a LOT more. If you don't want to pay the extra, your down to Pepper White, Chili Red, or Mellow Yellow. I, personally, think the Pepper White/Black combo is classy. The white is actually an off-white and takes a sealant type of wax (Epic) very well. It won't show the really deep type of shine that a Carnauba wax will give a darker color. It's more of a "wet" type of shine. Combine it with the piano black interior trim and you have a pretty cool combo.

I have JB with no stripes and let me say that nothing beats a clean black car. Sharp as hell IMO.
