Can someone confirm that 225/40 and 225/45 will fit on stock S Lite wheels? I have heard that they will from several people. Does anyone have photos of this size on the wheels. I am trying to order track tires. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

For Hoosiers ($237 each in these sizes)-
225/40-17 fits rims 7 to 9" wide, 23.8" tire diameter.

225/45-17 fits rims 7 to 8.5" wide, 24.7" tire diameter. Note that street tires of this size usually run 25" tire diameter which is too tall for some MINIs- expect some rubbing.


S-lytes are 17x7" wheels that weight 25.1 lbs each. I usually use track wheels that are 12 to 13 lbs each or less or if I have to use 17" then 14 lbs.

If on a budget any 17x7 wheel will work. Not sure if I would recommend spending the money for Hoosier Tires in those sizes for such a heavy wheel. If you are sponsored then that would be different.

A good less expensive Extreme Performance Summer tire like the Bridgestone Potenza RE-01 R in 205/45-17 would work just as well most likely. Alternatively you can use 215/40-17.

Another example is Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec (200 treadwear)
215/40-17 23.8" tire diameter $124 each
215/45-17 24.6" tire diameter $125 each
Good handling in dry or wet, can be used on the street, no tire changing needed at the event.

The other consideration is with stock suspension and alignment you won't be able to use the R compound tires full tread width. I find that stock MINIs on the track will wear out the outer front treads about 30% faster than a MINI with more front negative camber. I run -2.5 degrees vs stock -0.5 degrees. I know because I put identical wheels and tires on my MINI and another stock MINI and we drove them on the same track for 14 laps or less and checked the tires which were new at the time. Minimal wear on the tires I had and quite a bit of wear on the other set, and that MINI was going a lot slower per lap.

 

Guess that I should have qualified my post a bit more...

I can get a set of Kuhmo V700s in 225/45/17 for a ridiculous price. The tires would only be used in Auto-X/Track/Driving School. So before I made the deal I want to be sure that they will fit.

My wife and I just bought new street wheels and tires so I don't want to break the bank on another set of wheels, which is why I am trying to use the S Lites.

 

OK, that makes more sense now.

Kumho Victoracer V700
225/45-17 will fit the 17x7 S-lyte rims OK, and will work for track, but with stock alignment will wear out faster, watch your tire pressures and adjust as needed. Tire diameter is 24.6" and normal cost is $189 each.

Are you running stock suspension and alignment? If you do get interested in track then fixed or adjustable front camber plates would make sense.

 

Right now it is in stock form.....also buying rear sway bar and end links to start with....initially only Auto-X and in the near 3-6 month future driving school.

Track days will not come until next year.
