2008 MCS and my iPhone

Big NOOB question here. I tried the search button for this area, but did not quite get the answer I was looking for. In fact it made me more worried.

I ordered an MCS with the "Comfort Bluetooth with USB/iPod Adapter" that comes with the "Convenience Package".

When i put in the order, I made the assumption that, I would be connecting the Iphone via blue tooth, and would listen to my Iphone via the "Aux/usb" input jack.

Does this not work seamless? Eg, listening to music, a phone call comes in, the music dims' and i can talk to the person through the car. I should hear the person through my speakers.

I was also expecting the Iphone to be charging while connected..

Is this not correct?

Just having the Aux/USB port, is there no way to see the music titles through the stock radio. I will have the radio that comes with the "Premium Package".

Sorry if this has been asked many times. Ideally it would be great to make a phone call, and listen to my iphone in the car. See my address book on the radio, as well as see music titles on the radio..

I did not purchase NAV.

You've got it just about right-

AUX/USB for the audio connection and charging, Bluetooth connection for the phone integration.

When a call comes in and you've got a phone connected via Bluetooth, it fades anything else playing through the sound system and runs the call through the speakers.

I've got the Nav system, so I'm not 100% certain on the display for music- I believe it's still listed on the radio display, but I'm not certain.

One other point- WiFi interferes with Bluetooth, so you'll need to disable it on the iPhone to connect reliably to the car.

You should be good to go. Just make sure they give you the gizmo to attach the iPhone to the Aux/USB in the car. Don't let 'em try and charge you for it. I think that's low rent, but some dealers try it. If they have the wires there they should throw you one free.

ok great thanks... i kept digging in this area and i have read about the slowness of bringing up/scrolling through the music. Guess I will just have to see how it goes..

Also noticed some folks are peeved at how short the Y cord is. The armrest mod seems simple enough...

but then i read that there is some BMW part now that goes into the armrest...??

If that could get clarified, that would be great also..

The BMW armrest part that is available right now for the iPhone is just for charging and an indirect antenna connection, and won't work for music.

There was news posted on MotoringFile a couple days ago that there would be new snap-ins available to order for 2009 cars, sometime near September. There's no word yet on if it will be compatible with cars made before then.

MINISpud: You can do exactly what you're asking about with the non-Nav sound system. I use the head unit to control the music on my iPhone, and while the scrolling could be a bit faster, it's certainly reasonable to work with. I have a feeling that my scrolling experience is better than some I've read about on here, though.

thanks all. I have hope.

Hopefully that iPhone piece will be backwards compatible. I won't hold my breath though.

Not so much that we don't care, personally I just don't have any idea what could be causing it.

I think we need more info:

What firmware ver is your iphone?
Have you rtested with an ipod?
Do USB sticks work?
How old is your car?
etc. etc.

I was not referring to the NAM, but the service people from MINI. I was under the impression that MINI and BMW were the last manufactures who still put a full service warranty behind their cars, only to have loaners being not available for MINI owners from other dealerships, and full service turning into "drive train" service.

If you guys have any ideas, its a 2008 built in January, with the USB and headphone jack option.

I bought a 4 gig usb stick that works great, ipod classic doesn't load, nano only has artist and genre, no play lists which is why I wanted the IPOD integration in the first place. iphone is fairly new, bought in april, and has the latest updates.

I have restarted my ipod and nano, reduced the number of songs on them, reduced playlists. My only idea not attempted is the black ipod/aux cable. I did not get one with my car. I have used apple's ipod and iphone cables as well as one made by clarion that is black.

again sorry to the forum readers the comment was directed at D.C. area service centers....

And there is your problem. You have to have that cable. It allows the ipod to play audio through the aux jack and control through the USB port. Without it you would only be able to play music through the aux jack and have to control the ipod/iphone from the device itself. I'm pretty sure that using the IPOD dock cable that came with the IPOD would only get you charging.

Check out the frustration others are having with the cable here.

No harm, no foul, wasn't offended.
