I want to buy a chip for the R50
I want to buy a chip for the R50
I want to increase performance and mileage in my coop. Do I have to go somewhere to get it tuned or should I buy a chip? And if so what kind? I'm new to messing with the ECU. I already have an air intake but I really want to see what a chip can do to my car

A drop in filter will get you maybe 1 mpg and 2 hp. What is noticeable is the difference between a dirty clogged filter and a drop in. You may gain 5 or 10 hp over a dirty paper filter. It is a little bit louder than stock with a little burble.
I think it depends on how much more power you want. Also remember that if you change your driving style to use the added power, you will not see much mpg increase. I think a custom dyno tune will always get you the most, but there are a lot of companies with decent tunes out of the box... GIAC, MTH are a bit cheaper than unichip. There are a lot of threads on here comparing them on a cooper.
Good luck.

Search for GIAC in the non-S forum. There was a thread a while back raving about it's greatness. The member who had it done is also very helpful if you have questions.
I've been wanting to do it, but the nearest place that could do it is 3 hours away
