Aftermarket Battery...choices/opinions...

Hey guys, I am in need of replacing my battery and SOON...I have had some ongoing problems with my battery and am looking for a better solution.

I have the ALTA light bar assembly and have 2 10" subs with ~400W running.
I am looking for a battery that can handle this with out spending an arm and a leg. I was looking at the Optima Yellow tops, but really do not want to spend ~$200 on it...Any way to get it cheaper? Any alternatives similar to the Optima?

Thanks everyone

Chris.

Im sure there are other options, but ive had a yellow top (the same one) for close to 10 yrs now so its given me its moneys worth. Ive transported it through 3 vehicles so far, not to mention all the abuse its seen with stereo systems.

Are you really saving any money with a battery that costs ~200 and lasts for 10-12 years vs a battery that costs 45-60 and lasts 4-6 years? Sounds like it's one in the same to me, you might even save some money by just getting something simple and replacing it when needed.

Not only do you save in the long run we all save. Figure 3 batteries in the same time period for about the same total given inflation. Add to that costs involved in constructing and shipping 3 batteries vs one. Plus the disposal costs of three vs one. I think you see my point.

I agree it's better for the environment. Just can't stomach spending 200+ on a battery.

Thanks a lot guys for the help...Bad news though...

I have to get the battery tomorrow morning!!! My car is dead until then and its my daily grind!!! So, I am borrowing a friends car to pick up the battery tomorrow morning and putting it in...

Going with a Yellow Top, AutoZone has them in stock, but none of the others...and they are the only place with in 30 or so minutes to get it...I have class all week so ordering and shopping around is out of the question...

Thanks again though everyone I appreciate it greatly

I love my yellow top! I was having a hard time forking out the cash as well, then my wife pointed out how much I've put into the car for performance sake . I hate it when she is logical!
Plus, no hassles associated with battery failure. Mine went out late night.

No one has mentioned the Red Top as a more affordable alternative??? Perhaps the question may be that the Red Top may not be in stock and you need one now?

Thanks for the point...The red top is in stock, but it is not as good for cars with audio and other electronic accessories...still deciding if I need the yellow or if the red will do...

Like i said, my yellow top has put up with a lot of abuse, its been worn down at car events on aux, charged back up, and drained down all over again countless times with all of my interior media. Its a dry cell and can be mounted upside down if wanted. Its much safer as well. The only prob ive had is with the pos. side terminal lead sinking in, which they took back so its all good

Well I got the Yellow top...34/78 it is great! It cost ~$205 but it was well worth it I can run my bass as much as my system can handle and the volts don't even nudge I did not weight the batteries, but the Optima cannot be much heavier...

Depending on what kind of temps you start your car in (i.e. park it outside overnight when it's below zero), Unless you spend a lot of time with the engine off while running that lightbar and bumping your system, you're not going to take advantage of that heavy deep cycle battery.

Just some food for thought.

I know I will never use the full potential of the battery, but it can get horribly cold in the winter and I had numerous problems with the stock unit. I do plan on being able to listen to my music at shows and what not so there it will get some of its use Thanks for the info though
